Name: "Yahara Long Term Ecological Research: Trends & Patterns? with Emily Stanley
Date: May 8, 2014
Time: 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM CDT
Event Description:

Yahara Lakes 101 is a science speaker series co-produced by the Clean Lakes Alliance and University of Wisconsin-Madison Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. The series is a great chance for residents of the Yahara River watershed to get involved with the lakes by learning more about the science behind the issues in a relaxed and interesting way.

Each month CLA brings in a different expert to present their research to non-technical audiences in an accessible and interesting format through a presentation and Q&A over coffee, pastries and fruit at Bluephies café. Attendees learn about topics including lake ecology, limnology, and watershed management, and how these issues fit into CLA's efforts to reduce phosphorus runoff from agricultural and urban sources.

Through Yahara Lakes 101, CLA connects the scientific community to watershed residents and creates an entry point for involvement in lake protection and improvement efforts by drawing in those who are interested in learning more about the science behind lake issues. The series builds and strengthens partnerships with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and its scientific communities through the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, the Center for Limnology, and other departments, and fulfills the public outreach, community involvement and education elements of CLA's mission.
