Yahara Lakes 101 with County Exec Joe Parisi

  • Share:
Name: Yahara Lakes 101 with County Exec Joe Parisi
Date: October 13, 2016
Time: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM CDT
Event Description:
Talk given by Dane County Land & Water Resources Department About the talk: Conservation efforts have been occurring for decades throughout the County and the Yahara to help reduce the amount of agricultural nonpoint pollution entering nearby streams, rivers, and lakes. Although these efforts have helped, the overall goal of meeting the state’s water quality criterion for many of these water bodies has not occurred. Dane County in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) have been investigating instream legacy sediments as a potential significant source of nonpoint pollution and water quality impairment within the Dorn Creek watershed located on the northern side of Lake Mendota. Although extensive conservation systems have been implemented to improve water quality within the Dorn Creek watershed legacy sediments appear to be working against these improvements. About our speakers: Joe Parisi - Dane County Executive, Kyle Minks - Land and Water Resources Scientist - Dane County Land and Water Resources Department, John Reimer - Water Resources Engineer - Dane County Land and Water Resources Department. About the series: Yahara Lakes 101 is a series of educational events open to the public and a great chance for residents to learn more about the science behind the issues that affect our lakes. Each month we feature a different expert to make the science accessible and interesting to non-technical audiences. Yahara Lakes 101 is produced in partnership with the UW-Madison Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, with hosting sponsor The Edgewater, presenting sponsor First Weber Group, supporting sponsor The Evjue Foundation, and media sponsor The Isthmus. Yahara 101 is held both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) at The Edgewater. Come at 7:30 a.m. for a meet-and-greet and to enjoy your coffee, pastries, and fruit. The program begins at 8 a.m., and class is dismissed by 9 a.m. If you already are a Friend of Clean Lakes (minimum $35 donation/year), then admission is free. Become a Friend today.
