Yahara Lakes 101- Dr. Cory McDonald
Name:
Yahara Lakes 101- Dr. Cory McDonald
Date:
May 14, 2015
Time:
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM CDT
Event Description:
Join Clean Lakes Alliance on Thursday, May 14th to learn from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Research Limnologist, Dr. Cory McDonald, about rethinking the recovery of the lower Yahara Lakes. Cory McDonald is a Research Limnologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. He holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering and his work focuses on surface water quality and modeling. His current research interests are non-point source nutrient pollution in the surface- and groundwater systems of Dane County, eutrophication and cyanobacteria in shallow Wisconsin lakes, and nutrient cycling in wetlands.
About the talk: Lakes Waubesa and Kegonsa receive the majority of their phosphorus loading from upstream watersheds via the Yahara River. However, there is evidence that reducing direct phosphorus inputs (from the Waubesa/Kegonsa watersheds) may lead to greater improvements in summertime water quality in these lakes than expected.
