FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC All lectures are at 7pm in the Lecture Hall unless otherwise noted. The Wright Design Series was inspired by master architect Frank Lloyd Wright who, although known for his architectural designs, also created designs in furniture, clothing, textiles and tableware. The free lectures and discussions highlight a wide array of design topics including architecture. Thursday, February 4 SMALL SPACES, BIG IDEAS: MAXIMIZING RESOURCES THROUGH DESIGN BILL YUDCHITZ, AIA AND DANIEL YUDCHITZ, AIA Father and son presenters focus on a series of recent prototype dwellings- unbuilt and built- to discuss their work as an intergenerational team. Project complexity and strategies vary, but are each woven together by a theoretical thread: to provide maximum effect through minimal means. Their recent diminutive, off-the-grid cabin in northern Wisconsin was featured in Dwell and USA Today. Thursday, March 10 ARCHITECT SPOTLIGHT: ENRIQUE NORTEN, HON. FAIA Internationally renowned architect Enrique Norten is a native of Mexico City, and established his TEN Arquitectos practice there and in New York. He is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including AIA's Honor Award For Regional And Urban Design, as well as the 2015 Richard J. Neutra Medal for Professional Excellence. Thursday, March 24 EVOLUTIONS AND ASSEMBLIES DAN WHEELER, FAIA Wheeler presents the need for understanding the past to move things forward, which involves evolution and assembly not only of architecture but one's own life. This is in part an individual reflection on the optimism of design practices, weaving in art, architecture and his own work, old and new where appropriate. Wednesday, April 27 ARCHITECT SPOTLIGHT: TRUNG LE Le is the co-founder of WONDER: a learning and design expedition. He has been designing remarkable schools around the world for more than 25 years, creating spaces that encourage student inquiry and imagination and offer students a sense of what it means to be a part of a global community. Tuesday, May 3 JOHN H. HOWE, ARCHITECT: FROM TALIESIN APPRENTICE TO MASTER OF ORGANIC DESIGN TIMOTHY QUIGLEY, AIA AND JANE KING HESSION Quigley and Hession celebrate the remarkable career of John Howe, from the youngest charter member of the Taliesin Fellowship in 1932 to his successful 'second' career in independent practice in Minneapolis. It illuminates the working method of the Fellowship drafting room and his life-long passion for organic design.
