Tale of the Tiger
Did you know that four of nine tiger subspecies has gone extinct in the wild over the last century? And that remaining populations are declining rapidly? Unfortunately it’s true, but you can help.
Join us at Henry Vilas Zoo’s Visitor Center on Friday, November 29, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. as Dr. Tara Harris, director of conservation at the Minnesota Zoo and coordinator of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Tiger Species Survival Plan, talks tigers. Dr. Harris will discuss what zoos are doing to save this endangered species and what people of all ages can do to help.
“This is another example of how Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) are working together as a group to help preserve species both in the wild and in our institutions,” says Anna Reynolds, Executive Director of Friends of the Zoo. “We are very fortunate to have tiger conservation expert Dr. Tara Harris come and share her story of how we are helping these animals survive in the wild and thrive in zoos. This is an opportunity not to be missed and you will be directly helping preserve tigers in the wild with your attendance and support.”The cost is $35 for Friends of the Zoo members and $40 for nonmembers and all proceeds will benefit the Tiger Species Survival Plan. You can register online at vilaszoo.org or by calling 608.258.9490. Space is limited, so register soon.
