Event Description:
READ(y) to Wear, Madison Reading Project's largest fundraiser of the year supporting children's literacy, will take the stage on Wednesday, June 11, at The Sylvee.
The annual paper dress competition will have a “Legends and Fairytales" theme. Design teams of students, businesses, artists, and local nonprofits will strut their paper fashions under The Sylvee spotlights, with a nod to the reality TV show “Project Runway.” Expect original designs incorporating all kinds of paper materials. You will be amazed!
Jason Ilstrup, president of Downtown Madison Inc., and Bianca Lynn Breeze, a nationally honored drag queen, will join Madison Reading Project’s co-executive director Rowan Childs as emcees and spirited sideline fashion commentators.
“READ(y) to Wear is certainly a memorable, one-of-a-kind fundraising event,” says Childs. “The design class is working hard to wow you with their paper designs and talent. You’ll see some returning teams, new artists, and some new collaborations. Come ready to expect the unexpected! Funds raised will allow us to continue providing free resources to children, families, and educators in the greater Dane County area.”
Since 2014, the Madison Reading Project has engaged with more than 250 area partners annually, connecting the community with free new books and literacy resources to ignite a love for reading and affirm and reflect the diversity of young readers. They have provided over 750,000 books to the community.
