Catholic Charities Caregiver Training
Family Caregiver Workshops Presents:
"Compassionate Caregiving - A Fundamental of Providing Good Care: Providing Safe Care." Are you caring for someone with a debilitating condition or dementia? Do you wonder if there is a better way to help the person in your care? Join other caregivers as we learn some techniques to offer competent, compassionate care.
In this workshop you will learn how to safely move, lift and transfer the person in your care; and how skillful communication can ease anxiety and help you accomplish cares with individuals who have dementia
About the Instructors:
Susan Rutter is a trained CNA with 20 years of professional caregiving experience. She has been the Dementia Specialist for Catholic Charities for over 10 years. Jean Mueller is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of caregiving experience both professionally and personally. She understands the unique challenges of providing care.
Many people become caregivers overnight without having the basic skills to safely care for their spouses, parents or other older adults who return home from a few weeks or months in a nursing home rehabilitation facility. The home may not be set up with adaptive equipment like safety bars and rails to make the home safe. Caregivers risk injury to themselves and their care receiver if they lift or position improperly.
The $20.00 fee includes take home materials and refreshments. Scholarships are available if you need help with the fee.
