Catholic Charities Caregiver Training
Name:
Catholic Charities Caregiver Training
Date:
February 9, 2013
Time:
9:30 AM - 1:30 PM CST
Event Description:
Many people become caregivers overnight without having the basic skills to safely care for their spouses, parents or other older adults who return home from a few weeks or months in a nursing home rehabilitation facility. The home may not be set up with adaptive equipment like safety bars and rails to make the home safe. Caregivers risk injury to themselves and their care receiver if they lift or position improperly.
In this workshop you’ll receive hands-on instruction and learn how to move, lift and transfer properly, minimize falls, and control infections. The $20.00 fee includes take home materials and refreshments. Scholarships are available if you need help with the fee.
This session will include information on stress reduction as well as communication with someone who has dementia. Susan Rutter our Alzheimer’s Dementia specialist will offer some practical and very useful information on how to use communication techniques that reduce the challenging behaviors some individuals living with dementia can display.
