An Evening with Dr. Reuben Miller
Name:
An Evening with Dr. Reuben Miller
Date:
November 9, 2021
Time:
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM CST
Event Description:
Join JustDane and WUD Distinguished Lecture Series for a moderated discussion and Q & A with Dr. Reuben Miller about his new book, Halfway Home: Race, Punishment, and the Afterlife of Incarceration (2021). His work reveals a simple, but overlooked truth: life after incarceration is its own form of prison.
Dr. Reuben Miller is a sociologist, criminologist, social worker, and associate professor at the University of Chicago. His book compiles 15 years of his research and field notes on the permanent effects of incarceration on released prisoners’ lives, including his hands-on research serving as a chaplain at the Cook County Jail in Illinois for five years. Halfway Home is a portrait of the many ways mass incarceration reaches into American life, sustaining structural racism and redrawing the boundaries of our democracy.
This event is open to anyone. Tickets for the in-person lecture are free, but required.
Get your FREE TICKET(S) either at the Box Office in Memorial Union (OR) online at this website. Please bring a printed ticket to the event.
