On Wednesday, July 13th, Henry Vilas Zoo and the American Red Cross are hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help give back to the community and emphasize the little things people can do to make a difference. Giving blood directly plays a part in saving lives; blood donations help millions of patients in need. One pint of blood can save up to three lives and ensure there is blood on the shelf when needed. According to the American Red Cross, ?the supply of type O negative blood has dropped to critical levels.? They urgently request all eligible donors, of all blood types, to make and keep their appointments to give blood during these critical summer months. All presenting donors will receive a box of Girl Scout cookies donated by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois and have the chance to win a trip for four to Orlando.
